Pookah the dog gets a 'panda makeover' from animal stylist (but ends up looking more like a raccoon)

This pampered pooch has a new look to dye for.
Pookah's quirky new makeover was meant to make him look just like a panda - but the pet also now looks a lot like a raccoon.
Judging by these photos though, he is loving his new black and white style.
According to animal stylist Catherine Miles, from Darwin, Australia, using colour and clippers to transform your pet is now a popular trend.

Indeed, the creative colouring has seen everything from poodles to pussy cats getting a special new look.
Ms Miles said: 'It's all about creativity. It's a little bit of a fashion statement and it's getting more common.'

However, she warned that the sprucing up of pets should only be done by a professional who uses specially created dyes that are safe for animals.
'Don't ever use people products or try it at home.'

Human hair dye is notoriously dangerous for a pet that can easily turn around and lick the chemicals off its coat, and can cause irritation to the skin underneath the hair.

Colouring dogs' coats became a huge fad in China in 2010 when pictures began to emerge of owners and petting zoos that had dyed their dogs to look like wild animals.

Chow Chows were given the colours of panda bears, the soft fluffy coats lending themselves well to the look of their black and white counterparts.

Mystery of the massacred mobula rays: Just why DID dozens of these bloodied sea creatures wash up on the beach in Gaza?

Dozens of Mobula Ray fish were mysteriously washed up on the beach in Gaza City today and carted off to market by Palestinian fishermen.
It was the first time the fish had been seen on the beach for six years, according to a local video report purporting to show fisherman examining the Rays.
The fish are of a similar appearance to the more well-known Manta Rays, which are in the same family, and can reach a width of up to 17ft.

The Rays can weigh more than 12 stone and sell for around five shekels (£0.90) per pound in local markets, the Ma'an News Agency reported.
Bob Rubin, of Santa Rosa Junior College in California, is one of the world's leading expert on Rays, and spoke to MailOnline about the find in Gaza.

He said: ‘Mobulas often travel in huge schools of thousands of animals and also leap from the water and twist in the air. Very cool indeed.
'This observation is strange to me and unknown to me as well. I have worked in the Gulf of California for many years where there are abundant mobula schools and I have never seen a "mass stranding".
‘These animals seem to have blood on the "wings" - pectoral fins - which may have come from slapping something - boats, rocks, sand, each other?’

He added that without seeing the fish and looking further into other possible causes such as their stomach contents and condition of their gills, he could not determine what might have caused the stranding.

Some will be dyed in bright colours and others left white. They are shipped around the world and used to decorate picture frames or brighten bathrooms.

'It does get to me': Anne Hathaway admits negativity from 'Hatha-haters' plays on her mind after tears in post-Oscars interview

She has been criticised for her acceptance speech style throughout awards season.
And after it was revealed Anne Hathaway worked on what she would say as she claimed her Best Supporting Actress prize at The Academy Awards on Sunday, the star has admitted the negative reception has somewhat taken its toll on her.
She said about those nicknamed ‘Hatha-haters’: ‘It does get to me. But you have to remember in life that there's a positive to every negative and a negative to every positive.’

She stunned fans when she managed to hold it together on stage during the main ceremony.

But it didn't take long for her to give in to her emotions - breaking down in tears as she was asked about the victory by press backstage after collecting her award for her role as tragic prostitute Fantine in Les Miserables.
Asked what she had meant by 'it came true' during her acceptance speech, a clearly emotional Anne struggled to continue as she clutched her Oscar and explained through sobs: 'I had a dream... and it came true.

It has been claimed that the actress worked hard on her acceptance speech to make herself more likeable for viewers.

According to insiders, Anne pushed herself to perfect the speech after she hit headlines with her acceptance style earlier during awards season.
A source toldUsMagazine.com:'She was very aware that she had been the butt of everyone's jokes.'
Anne had hit headlines in February with her overly-long acceptance speech after taking home the BAFTA award for her Les Miserables role - thanking everybody from her hair and make-up artist to Les Miserables author Victor Hugo.

One person sarcastically tweeted: 'If Hathaway thanked Victor Hugo, will Bigelow have to thank Bin Laden?'

While another said: 'Sigh. There Anne Hathaway goes again, being all surprised and honored and humble with a carefully rehearsed extemporaneous speech. #BAFTA'.
Meanwhile Anne has apologised for switching to a pale pink Prada gown for the red carpet at the last minute.

She said in a statement to People magazine: ‘It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans.’

The 30-year-old is a longtime fan of the designer and has worn his pieces for many years including when she got married to Adam Shulman last September.

She continued: ‘Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honor of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself.
‘I deeply regret any disappointment caused.’
With all the negative attention surrounding the star, she didn't look too joyful as she stepped out in Brentwood, California on Tuesday.
Pale Anne covered her eyes in dark sunglasses and accessorised with sandals and a snakeskin bag as she fashioned a floral maxi dress and chunky knit cardigan.

It's completely false': Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones deny marriage split

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have denied reports that their marriage has been under strain.
The celebrity couple, who have been married for 12 years, were reported by the National Enquirer to have recently been in the midst of a 'hush hush trial separation.'
However a representative told MailOnline that 'the story is completely false.'
Her biggest supporter: Michael Douglas with Catherine Zeta-Jones at the premiere of Side Effects last week
Denial: Michael Douglas, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, pictured at the premiere of Side Effects at the beginning of February, have said rumours of a split are 'completely false'
Indeed, the couple have been looking more in love than ever lately, appearing together on the New York red carpet for Catherine's latest film Side Effects and at New York Fashion Week. .
The Enquirer alleges that the marriage 'buckled under the pressure of dealing with Michael's cancer battle, his son Cameron's incarceration on drugs charges and Catherine's struggle with bipolar II disorder.'
The publication even claims that 68-year-old Michael 'moved out' of the home he shared with the 43-year-old actress and children Dylan, 12, and nine-year-old Carys, moving into a nearby rental property.
'Michael said something to the effect that he and Catherine were taking a "time out", and he was looking forward to having an entire house as his personal man cave,' a source said.

But just three months later, Catherine checked herself in to hospital where she was treated with bipolar II disorder.
The same year, Cameron, 34, Michael's son with former wife Diandra, was given a further four and a half years for possessing drugs while in jail - added to his original five year stretch.
'Dealing with all this issues put an additional strain on Michael and Catherine marriage,' another source said.
According to the Enquirer, cracks began to publicly appear when Catherine was a 'no show' at a special screening of her father-in-law Kirk Douglas's film Spartacus last year.
'Michael made some lame excuse, but when she skipped the family dinner, it was obvious that something was not right,' a source said. 'I think he felt completely betrayed that Catherine didn't show up.'
However, representatives for the star insist that Catherine was in attendance at the dinner.
The Enquirer reports that the Welsh actress is 'determined' to save the marriage for the sake of the children.
'It's because of Dylan and Carys that Michael and Catherine aren't giving up on each other,' the source said.'But only time will tell if they can make things work over the long haul.'
The report comes after Michael gave a recent interview to People saying his wife is 'more beautiful than ever.'
And he said he supports the 43-year-old Welsh star with everything because she is 'simply the best'.
He told People magazine: 'Catherine and I are doing well. She is more beautiful than ever inside and out. I support her with everything and she is simply the best.'

Keri Russell proves blondes don't always have more fun as she dons dowdy wig on set of The Americans

They say blondes have more fun.
But Keri Russell is obviously an exception to the rule.
The brunette beauty was transformed as she donned a dowdy blonde wig as she strolled across the Harlem, New York set of The Americans on Wednesday.
Who's that? Keri Russell looked older than her years on the New York set of her new series The Americans on Wednesday, but then she plays a Russian spy posing as an average American housewife

Keri plays an undercover Russian agent in the FX spy series.
She has certainly changed since her days in the coming-of-age television drama Felicity.
In fact Keri, 36, was looking far older than her years. But fans needn't worry too much, as it was all magic care of the hair and make-up departments.

Keri plays Elizabeth Jennings who seems like the all-American matron but is really a K.G.B. agent,in the action-packed Cold War crime drama that takes place in the 1980s.
The actress - who once generated headlines for cutting off her long curly locks - was wearing a dowdy dark-blonde wig and metal-rim glasses.
Warming up: Keri looked like she was practicing some facial movements
Going glam: Keri looked her young self and stylish in leather trousers as she attended The Americans Season One New York Premiere on January 26
What a difference! Keri was unrecognisable under the wig, which covered her long brunette hair, as seen on January 26, right
Keri had her hands thrust in the pockets of a navy blue and orange padded jacket, which she paired with baggy grey trousers and rugged black boots.
Not only does she transform herself into a middle-aged woman, but Keri does a lot of her own stunts in spite of her slender figure.
'When I had to kick [the actor David Vadim's] head through the wall, that was challenging,' she said told The New York Times recently.
'He just looked at me as he was putting in his mouth guard and he said, “Listen, do it right once, otherwise I’m going to be mad if we have to do it again.” And I was like “O.K., booosh!”'

Matthew Rhys plays Keri's husband Philip  and in the show the couple find their KGB-arranged marriage growing more passionate and genuine on a daily basis.'Most importantly, the biggest
'Most importantly, the biggest interest point for me was the idea of this complicated marriage within the context of a spy world,' Keri told The Ottawa Citizen.
'To me, at its heart it’s really a show about a marriage in this very extreme situation. The spy stuff allows it to be very high stakes, but the marriage itself is fascinating.

'To be chosen for each other through this arranged marriage and then have this whole life together and just now really starting to choose each other interests me.'
Luckily her real-life home is just a short drive away.
The mother-of-two resides in Brooklyn with her carpenter husband Shane Deary and their five-year-old son River and one-year-old baby daughter Willa.
The Americans debuted on FX on January 30.
